The morning of Friday, April 15, was mild and sunny; perfect for a volunteer gardening event co-sponsored by DAY and FLY. A dozen volunteers – adults and kids – participated in Yale Day of Service at G.R.O.W.E.R.S., Inc. @ Greenbrier in Edgerton Park. G.R.O.W.E.R.S. offers a multi-path approach to providing horticultural education, employment opportunities and therapy for adults with developmental and physical disabilities. After a brief introduction and tour by G.R.O.W.E.R.S. President Scott Hickman, volunteers worked alongside G.R.O.W.E.R.S. clients and job coaches to haul compost, plant dahlias and tomatoes, harvest microgreens, write labels, and weed lavender beds. Many thanks to all the volunteers who got up early on this University holiday and dug in to make the event a success!
